Chapter 99

The small zombie excavator worked at full power, digging a circle of pits. Everyone took cover in the pits, watching as Ang's magic cannon sprayed the angels that burst out of the light pillars one by one.

As he sprayed, the wind started to pick up, forcing everyone to duck their heads. They would then peek out every few minutes.

Only Ang, with a sapling on his head, stood in the pit, his upper body exposed. The Wind of Rest blew past him, bypassing him directly.

The sapling waved its true leaves, sending out enthusiastic messages: "Push—huff—push—huff—."

After the Wind of Rest started, Ang didn't need to do anything. The angels that burst out of the light pillars were blown by the Wind of Rest a few times and immediately summoned holy light to protect themselves, stopping in place to resist the wind.

The wind grew stronger, and the holy light on their bodies grew brighter. Eventually, they planted their long swords in the ground and knelt on one knee to resist the wind.

The same happened with those behind them; as soon as one came out, it stopped there, like a lit magic light bulb.

Nigris and Anthony were the most frequent to peek out, checking every few minutes. Each time they looked, there were more light orbs around the light pillars. After an hour, the area around the light pillars was densely packed with light orbs.

At this point, some of the light orbs started to go out. Anthony, who had experience, didn't think they had dug pits to hide.

"Now I understand how the fool I sent last time died. He resisted until he died. That was a 1.7-meter third-stage angel, which could hold out longer. These 1.9-meter first-stage angels are too weak; they only lasted less than an hour," Anthony said, shaking his head in pain.

"Are you talking about the time I encountered two Black Warriors? Yes, I saw it. That day, we were riding horses and saw a skeleton kneeling there, with two Black Warriors standing behind it. I thought the Black Warriors had beaten the angel, but it wasn't the case."

"Is that what you call riding? That's called abuse," Anthony said with a smirk, having never seen a 'horse' that could carry four people, including a dragon.

"By the way, why are the taller angels lower in rank?" Nigris asked.

"Density, I guess. Newly born angels are all first-stage, almost the same height. As their bodies shrink, they can withstand more power, and their ranks become higher."

After a pause, Anthony added, "The one by Lord Ang's side was likely a fifth-stage, four-winged angel or higher in life."

"Ah? Really? But the holy skeleton we dug up in the Purple Skeleton Plane was only as tall as this one. In the plane where we found Locke's hand bone, you said a six-winged archangel died with Locke. It was likely the one we dug up, but it was only this tall." Nigris stopped, noticing Anthony's expression.

"I gave you the coordinates, how did you get there? Why didn't you tell me about the holy skeleton?" Anthony glared at him.

"Hehe, well, hah, the weather is really nice today," Nigris laughed amidst the howling Wind of Rest.

Anthony grunted, not bothering to argue. They were all cautious of each other, after all. It had been over a thousand years since they last met, and their interests were different. Did Anthony not have his own backup? His two Black Warriors didn't come with him.

If Nigris showed no caution, Anthony would think he was stupid.

"Never mind, let's not talk about this. Do you think the Light Deities are still alive?" Anthony asked.

When the light pillars first appeared, Anthony thought the Light Deities might still be alive. But now, it seemed that if even one of the Light Deities were still breathing, these holy spirits wouldn't be so foolish.

"They're definitely gone. These angels are now just instinct-driven, not as smart as Ang's."

Without the example of the King, it would be hard for Nigris to accept the idea that the Light Deities had disappeared. But if the King was gone, why couldn't the Light Deities be gone? Compared to the King, the Light Deities were nothing.

At that moment, Ang, who had been leaning out, suddenly burst with a continuous flow of magical energy. Fireballs condensed and shot out one after another, drawing a line of fire in the howling Wind of Rest.

After the Wind of Rest intensified, Ang stopped. The angels were busy resisting the Wind of Rest and couldn't move. Now that Ang was moving again, had something happened?

Everyone quickly peeked out. From the outside, it looked like a bunch of groundhogs had emerged from the ground.

Around the light pillars, a cluster of light orbs appeared, with the largest one pushing forward against the howling Wind of Rest. Ang's fireballs were hitting it.

In the Wind of Rest, not only was perception restricted and strength weakened, but it also constantly eroded the holy spirits.

Holy light caused additional damage to undead beings, and the Wind of Rest caused additional damage to holy spirits. After being hit by Ang's series of fireballs, the holy light on its body quickly weakened, and it soon stopped, then was forcibly extinguished and exploded into a fireball.

However, the Heavenly Staircase continued to send holy spirits. Another, even larger, light orb landed and pushed forward against the Wind of Rest.

A series of fireballs hit it, but it still pushed forward, clearly much stronger than the previous holy spirits.

A spark of firelight flickered in Ang's eyes. The fireballs, the size of fists, suddenly shrank to the size of table tennis balls, becoming more condensed and brighter. The casting frequency decreased, but the speed of the fireballs increased dramatically.

When such fireballs hit the target, they not only scattered but also exploded. In a series of "bangs," the approaching light orb was blasted back.

"Alright, the fireballs have been upgraded," Nigris said, as if he had expected it.

"Fourth-level explosive fireballs, but the power seems a bit low, and the magical reaction is off," Anthony was surprised.

Nigris smirked, "Because these aren't fourth-level explosive fireballs, but second-level explosive fireballs."

"What are you talking about? There are no second-level explosive fireballs; explosive fireballs are fourth-level," Anthony questioned.

"Once you can cast thousands of first-level spells in a row, you'll learn," Nigris shrugged, helplessly.

Ang's Fire Clearing Spell was actually the weakest, so his Fireball Spell was also the weakest. His highest proficiency was in Rain Spell, Purification Spell, and Beautification Spell.

With these three spells, he could use first-level magic, buffered through the Hand of Locke, to cast second-level spells, achieving the effect of fourth-level spells.

As his proficiency in Fireball Spell increased, it achieved the same effect.

Anthony opened his mouth to argue but found no way to do so. After all, Ang's example was right there, and he had never seen a mage cast a first-level spell thousands of times.

The light orb was forcibly turned into a fireball and collapsed, but a larger light orb had already landed and burst out of the light pillar, spreading its wings in an instant. Ang felt the entire world brighten.

A straight beam of light shot at Ang—True Holy Light!
