I lit the way with magic and continued walking down the dark path.
After recalling my memories from my previous life just a few hours ago, I left the mansion immediately and didn't have time to calm down and think, so now is a good time. Since I'm just walking, I think I'll take this opportunity to think.
My name is Selena Callisto.
Before marriage, I was Selena Alrey, the daughter of the Alrey Earl's family, but I married into the Callisto Marquess's family three years ago and took my current name.
My husband's name is Cyrus Callisto.
My marriage to my husband was a political marriage, which is not uncommon in this country. The Alrey Earl's family has magic power but lacks money, while the Callisto Marquess's family has wealth and wanted to start a new business using magic, which required someone with a lot of magic power. The two families agreed to marry me, who has abundant magic power, into the Callisto family, and the Alrey family would receive financial support.
The Alrey Earl's family has two daughters, and I, the eldest, was the one who was married off. While it's true that I have more magic power than my younger sister, that wasn't the reason I was married off.
It was because I was disliked by my parents and sister.
I should have succeeded the earl's family for the family's prosperity due to my abundant magic power, but my parents didn't want that. Apparently, I resemble my paternal grandmother in appearance, and both my father and mother disliked her, which led to me being disliked as well.
My younger sister, who was born two years later, looked just like my mother, and my parents' love was focused solely on her. Growing up seeing such parents, my sister naturally thought that her sister was someone who could be ignored.
I entered the academy at the age of twelve, but since I was disliked by my parents, I didn't receive proper education.
Despite that, I seemed to have a talent for studies and quickly absorbed everything, eventually becoming the top student in my grade.
I made some friends and enjoyed my school life, but it only lasted for two years.
The reason was that my younger sister entered the academy.
My sister was not good at studies and didn't like putting in the effort to improve, so her grades were not good.
My sister, who was one of the worst in the class, couldn't stand her older sister, who was the top student.
"I can't stand it if my older sister gets more attention than me."
When she complained to our parents, I was forbidden to get better grades than my sister.
From then on, my school life became difficult.
I had to pretend not to understand things I did understand, and my friends started to avoid me because of my strange behavior, leaving me alone. However, my desire to learn never disappeared, and to satisfy that desire, I spent my breaks and afternoons in the library.
Come to think of it, I often felt someone watching me in the library back then, but I don't know who it was. Since it's been three years since I graduated, there's no way to find out, so I decided it's pointless to worry about it.
I was engaged soon after my final year at the academy and got married immediately after graduation.
Although the engagement period was short, it did exist, but during that time, I never met my husband, nor did I receive any letters or gifts from him. I think the engagement was probably against his will, but since it was a contract between the families, he had no choice but to get married.
The first time I met my husband was at the wedding. At the end of the aisle, he stood in a tuxedo.
He had a well-defined face with black hair and black eyes, a tall and well-built physique, and a look that would surely attract women.
In contrast, I have dull blonde hair and a tall stature for a woman, and my appearance is rather disappointing. My only redeeming feature might be my blue eyes.
People with a lot of magic power tend to have lighter hair and eye colors, so I can tell that my husband doesn't have much magic power.
After the wedding, on our wedding night, my husband said to me,
"I can't make love to you now."
Since then, I've been working on the new business project I was given and waiting for my husband. Three years have passed since I got married at seventeen, and I am now twenty years old.
